Can I wash/cleaning my windows right after install?
We recommend waiting at least 60 days after installation before using any household cleaning products, chemicals, or abrasive tools on your windows. This waiting period allows the adhesive used in the window film to fully cure and bond to the glass surface. Cleaning too soon can disrupt the curing process, potentially causing the film to lift, bubble, or become damaged. After the 60-day period, you can clean your windows using a soft cloth or sponge and a non-ammonia-based cleaner. Avoid using razor blades, harsh chemicals, or abrasive pads, as these can scratch or degrade the film over time. What happens if I see air bubbles?
It’s completely normal to notice small bubbles or a hazy appearance in the days following installation. These are typically moisture pockets, not air bubbles, and they occur as part of the drying process. Depending on the film type and environmental conditions, these bubbles usually disappear within 30 days as the moisture evaporates and the film settles. If the bubbles persist beyond that timeframe or appear to be growing, we encourage you to contact our team. We stand behind our work and will inspect and resolve any issues at no additional cost, ensuring your installation meets our high standards for clarity and performance.Do you offer window film that is private during day and night while also being reflective?
Currently, no window film on the market can offer complete privacy during both day and night while maintaining a reflective appearance. Reflective films work based on light balance—during the day, when it's brighter outside, they reflect light and provide privacy. However, at night, when interior lights are on and it's darker outside, the effect reverses, making the inside visible from the outside. For 24-hour privacy, we recommend exploring frosted, decorative, or blackout films, which obscure visibility regardless of lighting conditions. Our team can help you assess your space and recommend the best solution based on your privacy goals, lighting environment, and aesthetic preferences. How long does window film installation take?
The installation process typically takes a few hours to a full day, depending on the size and complexity of the project. For residential homes, most installations are completed within a single day. Commercial properties or multi-window projects may require additional time. Our team works efficiently to minimize disruption, and we always provide a clear timeline during your consultation. After installation, we recommend allowing the film to cure for 30 to 60 days before cleaning or applying pressure to the glass. Will window film affect the appearance of my windows?
Window film can subtly alter the appearance of your windows, but most products are designed to be optically clear or aesthetically neutral. Reflective, tinted, or frosted films may change the look slightly, depending on your selection. Decorative films can add style and privacy, while solar control films may give your windows a sleek, modern finish. During your consultation, we’ll show you samples and help you choose a film that complements your home or business without compromising your view or natural light. Is window film permanent, or can it be removed?
Window film is semi-permanent, meaning it’s designed to last for many years but can be professionally removed if needed. Most films have a lifespan of 10 to 20 years, depending on the product type and exposure to sunlight. If you decide to change or remove the film, our team can safely take it off without damaging the glass. This flexibility makes window film a great option for renters, homeowners, and businesses looking for long-term benefits without permanent alterations.Does window film help with energy efficiency?
Yes, many of our films are engineered to improve energy efficiency by reducing solar heat gain in summer and retaining warmth in winter. This helps stabilize indoor temperatures, reduce HVAC usage, and lower utility bills. Some clients see energy savings of up to 30%, especially in sun-exposed rooms or buildings with large glass surfaces. Our energy-efficient films also block 99.9% of UV rays, protecting your interiors from fading while contributing to a more sustainable living or working environment. Can window film be installed on any type of glass?
Window film can be installed on most types of glass, including single-pane, double-pane, tempered, laminated, and low-E glass. However, certain films are better suited for specific glass types to avoid thermal stress or compatibility issues. During your consultation, our certified installers will assess your windows and recommend the best film for your glass type, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.Do you offer warranties on your window film products?
Absolutely. We offer manufacturer-backed warranties on all our window film products, covering issues such as bubbling, peeling, discoloration, and adhesive failure. Warranty terms vary by brand and film type, but most range from 5 to 15 years, with some premium products offering lifetime coverage. In addition to manufacturer warranties, Scottish Window Films provides a satisfaction guarantee on all installations, ensuring your investment is protected from day one.Can window film help with glare reduction?
Yes, glare reduction is one of the most popular benefits of window film. Our films can reduce glare by up to 87%, making it easier to work on screens, watch TV, or relax without squinting or adjusting blinds. This is especially helpful in rooms with large windows, southern exposures, or reflective surfaces. Glare-reducing films maintain natural light while softening harsh sunlight, creating a more comfortable and productive indoor environment.
